On holiday in Bangkok? Which face treatments fit around your trip
Most visitors come to Bangkok for the food, the shopping and the islands, not for a clinic. If you have a spare morning, some treatments fit easily around a holiday. Others are better saved for a trip with quieter days.
Does a treatment fit your holiday?
For most visitors, a treatment is an extra, not the reason for the trip. That is a sensible way to see it. The question to ask is not “what can I have done?” but “what fits the days I already have?”
A few things decide the answer:
- How many days are left after the treatment, before you fly home
- What else is planned: beach and island days, spa visits, long walks in the heat, nights out
- How much visible swelling you are comfortable with on holiday photos
- Whether a follow-up check can be done from home by photo
If you are curious before you travel, you can send a short message with what you would like to improve and a few clear photos (front, both sides, natural light, no makeup). This is optional. Any plan discussed remotely is provisional, and the final decision is always made after examining your face in person.
Matching treatment to your holiday
| Treatment | Time in clinic | Visible downtime | Usually fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultherapy / HIFU | 30–90 min | Minimal; occasional redness or swelling | A spare morning, even near the end of a trip |
| Thermage FLX | 45–90 min | Minimal | A spare morning, even near the end of a trip |
| Masseter botulinum toxin | 15 min | Small bumps for minutes to hours | A short visit between other plans |
| Chin / jawline filler | 30–45 min | Swelling 2–7 days; possible bruising | Early in a stay of four days or more |
| Thread lift | 45–60 min | Swelling and bruising 3–7 days | A trip with about a week of quiet days |
If what you would like does not fit the time you have, it is reasonable to wait for another trip. A good consultation should never push you to decide on the day.
Holiday plans to keep in mind
- Sun, sea and heat. Bangkok is hot all year, and the islands more so. Heat and strong sun can make swelling and redness worse, so keep treated skin out of intense sun at first and use sunscreen.
- Spas and massage. Body massage is usually fine. Avoid facial massage, facials and firm pressure on treated areas for about one to two weeks after fillers or threads.
- Saunas, steam and hot yoga. These are best avoided for a few days after most treatments, and for longer after fillers or threads.
- Alcohol. It can increase bruising and swelling, so go easy for the first day or two after injectables.
- Food. After a thread lift you will usually be asked to avoid very hard or chewy food and opening your mouth very wide for about two weeks.
Sample holiday schedules
A three-day city break (energy-based lifting or jaw toxin)
- Day 1: arrive, explore the city
- Day 2: morning consultation and treatment; a gentle afternoon of cafés or shopping
- Day 3: fly home
A week with beach days (any of the low-downtime options)
- Days 1–4: islands or beach
- Day 5: back in Bangkok; consultation and treatment
- Days 6–7: low-key city days, then fly home
Five days or more in the city (fillers)
- Day 1 or 2: consultation, then filler
- Following days: museums, markets and restaurants rather than beach, sauna or a big night out
- Last day: brief review if needed, then fly home
Flying after treatment
Cabin pressure does not generally affect energy-based treatments or botulinum toxin. Swelling after filler or threads can feel more noticeable on a flight, so an aisle seat, good hydration and avoiding alcohol on board help. Avoid pressing on treated areas with tight eye masks or neck pillows, and do not massage your face.
Follow-up from home
Botulinum toxin takes about two weeks to settle, and slimming of the jaw develops over several weeks. You will usually be back home by then. A photo review at about two weeks, sent from home, lets the doctor check the result and plan any next step. Agree in advance how to get in touch, and which symptoms need urgent attention.
Choosing a doctor and clinic
- Licence. Confirm the doctor’s registration with the Medical Council of Thailand.
- Products and devices. Ask what brand is being used. Products and devices should be genuine and registered with the Thai FDA.
- Consultation quality. You should get a clear explanation of what can and cannot be achieved, the risks, and the alternatives, without pressure to decide on the day.
- Aftercare. Make sure you know who to contact after you leave Thailand.
Enjoy the trip first. If a treatment fits around it, good; if it does not, it can wait for next time.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have treatment and fly home on the same day?
After energy-based treatments such as Ultherapy or Thermage, and after botulinum toxin, it is often possible to fly the same or next day. After fillers, many doctors prefer a day or two, so swelling can settle and any early concern can be reviewed. After a thread lift, it is best to stay several days.
Can I still go to the beach or the islands?
Usually, yes, with some timing. Strong sun and heat can make swelling and redness worse, so many doctors suggest avoiding intense sun, saunas and hot yoga for the first days after energy-based treatment, and for one to two weeks after fillers or threads. Having beach days before a treatment, rather than straight after, is often the simplest plan.
Can I have a Thai massage after treatment?
A body massage is usually fine, but tell the therapist about your treatment. Avoid facial massage and firm pressure on treated areas for about one to two weeks after fillers or threads. Lying face down on a massage table can press on the face, so it is worth waiting a few days or asking for another position.
How do I check a doctor's licence in Thailand?
Thai doctors hold a licence from the Medical Council of Thailand, and the council provides a public search to confirm registration. Dr. Jutakorn's licence number is ว.49956.
What if I need follow-up after I return home?
Arrange a follow-up plan before you leave. This usually means sending photos at agreed intervals, with a clear way to get in touch. If you have urgent symptoms, seek medical care locally straight away.
